‘Colors’ Flying in Home Video

“Stand and Deliver,” with “Miami Vice’s” Edward Olmos going against type and playing a Latino math teacher in an L.A. school, entered the Billboard magazine chart at No. 26. Though it got a lot of publicity, the movie didn’t do big box-office business. Still, it’s expected to be a Top 10 rental--with a huge boost from local Latino renters. “Three Men and a Baby” (No. 4) could be the next No. 1 rental. “The Seventh Sign,” the apocalyptic thriller starring Demi Moore, is gathering strength, jumping from No. 18 to No. 10.

One of the most controversial films of the year, “Colors,” starring Sean Penn and Robert Duvall, spotlights L.A. gang violence. It was a hit, though fear of gang warfare in theaters may have kept some potential customers at home. Now those fans can safely rent the film, which debuted at No. 12 and could crack the Top Five.
