Archive Corp. reported that earnings for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30 rose 72% on a 38% increase in revenue. The Costa Mesa-based manufacturer of computer tape drives recorded earnings of $10.5 million, compared to earnings of $6 million a year ago. Revenue rose to $122.7 million from $88.8 million a year ago. D. Howard Lewis, chairman and president, attributed the increased revenue to continued strong demand for the company’s products from personal computer manufacturers and other customers. Archive makes tape drives that are used as backup storage devices in personal computers and workstations. For the fourth quarter, earnings rose 40% to $3.2 million from $2.3 million, and sales increased 44% to $36.3 million.
