There is just one thing worse than the premature announcements of George Bush defeating Michael S. Dukakis for the presidency--and that is because of California’s late primary in June and thus an already limited choice of candidates, I couldn’t be upset with early projections of a presidential race between Sens. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) and Paul Simon (D-Ill.).
