Former Dominican Republic President Salvador Jorge Blanco was arrested on his return to the Caribbean nation to appeal his recent conviction on corruption charges. Jorge Blanco, 62, was arrested by Dominican officials and placed aboard a Dominican air force helicopter and flown to Ensanche Le Fe prison in Santo Domingo. Jorge Blanco, president of the Dominican Republic from 1982 to 1986, was sentenced in absentia to 20 years in prison and fined $16 million.
