Cal State Fullerton will open its basketball season tonight against Utah in the Events Center at Salt Lake City.

John Sneed, who was named acting coach after George McQuarn’s resignation Nov. 3, makes his debut with a 10-player roster that includes no returning starters. Three Titan players--two newcomers and one returning reserve--have quit the team.

Fullerton’s leading players are forwards Cedric Ceballos, a transfer from Ventura College, and Derek Jones, who is returning from serious injury in a drive-by shooting last year.

Utah is 1-2 after a victory over Iona and losses to Seton Hall and 19th-ranked Florida in the Great Alaska Shootout.

Van Gray, a 6-foot guard, is Utah’s leading scorer with a 16-point average.
