The U.S. attorney’s office in Salt Lake City has filed a complaint against two Colombian nationals from California accusing them of transporting 220 pounds of cocaine worth more than $2 million to Utah on Nov. 16.
The written complaint, an alternative until a federal grand jury can hear the prosecution’s evidence, charges Jorge Enrique Arango, 27, of West Covina and Nazly Correa, 30, of La Puente with one count each of possession of 100 kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute.
The Utah Highway Patrol said a trooper discovered the drugs after stopping the two men’s pickup truck on Interstate 70 near Elsinore, about 145 miles south of Salt Lake City, for driving 84 m.p.h. The patrol said the cocaine seizure was the largest ever in Utah.
Arango and Correa are being held in the Salt Lake County Jail.
