Women’s Basketball Roundup : LSU Upsets Long Beach, 78-73
Sophomore Dana Chatman had 23 points and 10 assists to lead Louisiana State’s women’s basketball team to a 78-73 upset victory over second-ranked Cal State Long Beach Thursday night at Baton Rogue, La.
Traci Waites, who scored 22 points, gave the 49ers (0-1) a 69-68 lead with 2:33 left, but LSU (2-1) took the lead for good on baskets by Patricia Woods and April Delley.
The 49ers’ Angelique Lee had 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Penny Toler added 14 points and 7 rebounds.
USC 93, North Carolina 75--Cherie Nelson had 33 points and 17 rebounds as the Trojans opened their season with a victory over the Tar Heels at Chapel Hill, N.C.
North Carolina (1-3) took a 53-52 lead on Sheri Anderson’s basket with 14:52 remaining, but USC broke open the game with an 11-2 surge in the next 3 minutes.
