Why ABC Lost the ‘War’

I have just finished reading an account of “War and Remembrance” by Annette Insdorf, daughter of a Holocaust survivor, who praised the “authenticity” of the ABC miniseries’ graphic depiction of the horrors suffered by the Jews in Nazi concentration camps (“ ‘War and Remembrance’ Painfully Authentic,” Nov. 23).

But, in truth, the series did not present a full picture.

At the Nuremberg Nazi war crimes trials in 1945-46, it was established that nearly 14 million people died in the Nazi concentration camps during World War II, of which 6 million were Jews. Yet we hear only of the Jews who suffered and died in these camps. Statues and museums have been dedicated--and rightfully so--to the memory of the Jews who perished.

But it is so terribly wrong to omit mention of the nearly 8 million non-Jewish victims who also perished in this Nazi Holocaust. It’s as if their suffering and dying were not important.
