U.S. Trade Representative Clayton K. Yeutter predicted that Japan would end voluntary restraints on auto exports after April 1. “But that hasn’t been announced yet” by the Japanese goverment, he added in remarks to the National Press Club. He said the Reagan Administration and the incoming Bush Administration will “leave that decision” to the Japanese. Since 1981, Japan has had a self-imposed 2.3-million-unit limit on car exports to the United States.
