Free Agent Orosco Reaches Agreement With Indians
Free agent Jesse Orosco, a former Dodger relief pitcher, reached an agreement in principle with the Cleveland Indians Friday.
Orosco, who chose free agency when the Dodgers refused to negotiate a new contract, can earn $2.975 million if he satisfies the option and incentive provisions of his 3-year deal with the Indians. Some portions of the contract language are still to be worked out, agent Alan Meersand said.
After being paid $1 million by the Dodgers in 1988, Orosco will receive a $50,000 signing bonus from the Indians and guaranteed salaries of $800,000 and $825,000 in 1989 and 1990. He qualifies for an $850,000 option year in 1991 if he appears in 53 games in either 1989 or 1990. The contract also gives Orosco a shot at $150,000 in yearly award bonuses.
