The Colleges : College Roundup : UC Irvine Women Beat Pepperdine, 73-60

Natasha Parks scored 28 points to lead UC Irvine to a 73-60 victory over Pepperdine Friday in the first round of the New Mexico State women’s basketball tournament.

The Anteaters (2-1) led, 35-22, at halftime and Pepperdine never got closer than 10 points in the second half.

Jenny Lee made 7 of 9 shots and scored 16 points for Irvine. Parks also had 8 rebounds.

In the Houston women’s tournament:

Cal State Fullerton 66, Northwest Louisiana 53--Gina Miller scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds for Fullerton. Kathy Worth, a junior transfer from Golden West College, had 13 points and Jill Matyuch 10 for Fullerton (2-1).

Fullerton led, 48-44, with 9:24 left and went on a 9-0 run to take control.

In the Lady Buff tournament:

Johnson C. Smith 99, Chapman 96--Angela Hamilton scored 29 points to lead Johnson C. Smith (4-1). Julie King had 24 points and Kim Reese 21 for Chapman (2-3).
