The emir of Bahrain said in remarks published Saturday that Persian Gulf Arab leaders will meet in Bahrain later this month and discuss ways of promoting peace between Iran and Iraq.

“Gulf Cooperation Council responsibility to support international efforts to make the Iraqi-Iranian talks a success . . . will be the main issue discussed at the conference,” Sheik Isa ibn Salman al Khalifa told a Bahraini weekly.

The leaders of the six gulf council states--Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait--are scheduled to meet Dec. 19.
