China has replaced its Communist Party chief in Tibet after a year of Tibetan unrest, Western sources said in Lhasa, capital of the region. The sources said Wu Jinghua, first secretary of the party in Tibet since 1985, was dismissed for failing to stop a simmering revolt among Tibetans in Lhasa. A Communist Party spokeswoman in Beijing confirmed that Tibet has a new party secretary as of Dec. 1. She identified him as Hu Jintao, former party leader in Guizhou province.
