S.D. BRIEFLY . . .

The Museum of Photographic Arts has received a gift of 39 photographs from portrait photographer Arnold Newman, including well-known portraits of Pablo Picasso (1954) and Igor Stravinsky (1946). Newman, who lives in New York City, is the subject of a touring exhibit, “Arnold Newman: Five Decades,” organized here by MOPA in 1986. Among the collection of black-and-white portraits donated to the museum and valued at $44,000 are images of Martha Graham, Georgia O’Keeffe, Piet Mondrian, Truman Capote, Marilyn Monroe and local artist Italo Scanga.
