Venezuela’s Perez to Fly to Mideast Today

CARACAS, Venezuela —
President-elect Carlos Andres Perez flies to the Middle East today to confer with the rulers of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Algeria about ways to strengthen OPEC, officials said Wednesday.
Perez will discuss “very precise ideas” about how to revitalize the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, officials added. Venezuela is an OPEC member.
Over the past few months, Perez has urged an OPEC summit to forge greater unity.
