Falling snow gave the Rocky Mountain and Northern Plains states a Christmas card look, but the high pressure system that brought the snow sent temperatures plummeting, the National Weather Service said. The mercury was expected to hover in the teens and 20s over the Northern Plains, forecasters said. Snowfall included 8 inches at Ft. Collins, Colo., more than 4 inches at Bellview, Colo.; 4 inches at Sheridan, Wyo.; 3 inches at Lander, Wyo., and 3 inches at Alliance, Neb. Meanwhile, clear skies prevailed over the East Coast and forecasters said afternoon highs climbed into the 50s and 60s.
