Anthony Industries of City of Commerce announced that its K2 Corp. unit has signed an agreement to acquire 70% of Madshus AS, the oldest and largest manufacturer of Nordic, or cross country, skis in Scandinavia. Madshus, which had sales of about $5 million in 1987, is in Biri, Norway, 15 miles south of the site of the 1994 Winter Olympics. K2, the largest U.S. manufacturer of alpine or downhill skis, acquired the interest from Moelven Industries AS, a Norwegian building products maker. The Madshus plant will be expanded to include production of K2’s line.
