NBA Roundup : Knicks Find Their Range to Beat Bucks
Unlike some coaches, Rick Pitino encourages his New York Knicks to attempt 3-point shots.
After missing all 7 tries against Denver Tuesday night, the Knicks came back firing from long range Thursday night at New York.
They made a National Basketball Assn. record 11 of 19 3-point shots in a 113-109 victory over Milwaukee. Three teams, including the Knicks on Nov. 18, have made 10 3-point shots.
Mark Jackson, who sparked the Knicks, made 3 3-point shots. The Bucks held a 100-97 lead with 5:37 to play, but Jackson had an assist and 3 consecutive baskets to lead an 11-2 spurt that put the Knicks in front.
The Knicks (12-6) are tied with Philadelphia for first place in the Atlantic Division.
Paul Pressey made the only Buck 3-point shot with a minute remaining, but it still left Milwaukee 2 points short.
“The 3-point shot won the game for us,” Pitino said. “It’s a momentum breaker.”
Cleveland 104, San Antonio 95--The Cavaliers used a tough defense and accuracy from the free-throw line to win at San Antonio.
The Cavaliers (12-4) had 8 steals and 8 blocks. They made 29 of 33 free throws.
Brad Daugherty, who led the Cavaliers with 23 points, was 11 for 11 from the line. Ron Harper, who didn’t shoot a free throw, scored 21 points.
