Analysts Say IBM May Shave Phone Holdings

After losing several hundred million dollars in the telephone equipment business over the past four years, International Business Machines Corp. may be ready to give up at least a portion of it, industry analysts said Friday.

According to several analysts, IBM is on the verge of announcing the sale of a part of its Rolm phone systems unit, which it bought for $1.5 billion in 1984.
