Cerritos College Board Decides to Appoint Successor to Epple

For the second time in less than four months, the Cerritos Community College District Board of Trustees has voted to appoint someone rather than hold an election to fill a vacancy on the 7-member board.

The board voted unanimously to fill the unexpired term of Trustee Robert D. Epple, who was elected to the Assembly last month. Epple’s 4-year term on the college board expires in November, 1989.

The board chose to appoint a trustee because of the cost of holding a special election, which would have been about $160,000, and the relatively short time remaining on Epple’s term, said Mark Wallace, public information director at the college in Norwalk.

Board member John H. Moore was appointed to the board in August to fill a vacancy created after Barbara Hayden was elected to the Downey City Council.
