Taxing Seniors for Medicare
The article was an excellent start on the inequity of the situation. The fact is that all couples with incomes of $32,000 or more pay tax on 50% of Social Security. (We were assured when we paid Social Security taxes that our pension would be tax-free.) The other item omitted is that many of us already have this type of catastrophic insurance from our former employers at a small cost to us. Some say that there is a 95% duplication. Many seniors already have $1.5 million catastrophic coverage as part of their “medigap” policy. The real need would be for nursing home care which neither cover now.
Let’s hope for a change.
