Alexander Dubcek, the reformist Czechoslovak leader ousted in 1968 after a Soviet-led invasion, was kept under house arrest during a state visit last week by French President Francois Mitterrand, according to Dubcek’s wife, Anna. Mitterrand, who talked with eight dissidents during his visit, did not say whether he tried to meet with Dubcek, and it was not clear whether he was prevented from doing so. Anna Dubcek said police disappeared from the house overnight.
