The State : Parents Held on Drug Count

Share

A couple were arrested after their 17-year-old daughter complained to a school counselor that they were “teaching” her how to use cocaine at home, police in Mountain View said. Police Lt. Steve Gray said Victor Hupman told officers he figured his daughter would be exposed to cocaine anyway and “wanted her to be exposed at home.” Hupman, 36, and his wife, Patricia, 34, were booked for investigation of furnishing cocaine to a minor. Gray said there was no evidence the couple offered cocaine to their four other children, who range in age from 6 to 14. “The incredible aspect of this is that they felt somehow they were doing nothing wrong,” the lieutenant said. The girl had told her school counselor about her parents. State child abuse laws required the school to inform police. The parents were released on $25,000 bail each and their children were turned over to their maternal grandparents, who live in San Jose.
