A federal judge refused to stop random drug testing of uniformed Secret Service agents. U.S. District Judge Thomas A. Flannery denied a motion by a public employees’ union for a preliminary injunction, noting that other courts have refused to halt ongoing drug-testing programs while the question of their legality is pending. Flannery did not rule on the merits of the challenge, saying he would issue an opinion within a week. The random drug testing was challenged by 1,013 uniformed Secret Service officers as an unconstitutional invasion of privacy.
