Fire engulfed a dormitory at a Mexican prison, killing 20 inmates and injuring six, authorities said. According to officials, the fire broke out at the Nuevo Leon state penitentiary in Monterrey when a candle at an altar to the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of predominantly Roman Catholic Mexico, ignited a curtain. However, the daily newspaper El Sol quoted an unidentified guard as saying that the fire was sparked during a fight among prisoners. The prison houses about 1,800 inmates.
