An Indian merchant ship arrived at Honolulu Harbor for repairs after it was hit by a U.S. Navy practice missile in restricted waters off the island of Kauai, killing a 36-year-old crewman. The Navy was investigating the incident, according to a Navy spokesman at Pearl Harbor. An FA-18 Hornet attack fighter from the carrier Constellation fired a 12-foot unarmed Harpoon missile toward a target hulk ship but the missile’s guidance system locked onto the 250-foot ship Jag Vivek rather than the hulk ship, the Navy said. The Jag Vivek, which was en route to Singapore with an undisclosed cargo, was reportedly in restricted waters of the Pacific Missile Range 80 miles north-northwest of Kauai.
