New Orleans Prelate Quits
VATICAN CITY — Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation for reasons of age of Archbishop Philip M. Hannan, 75, of New Orleans, the Vatican announced Tuesday. The Pope appointed the bishop of Wheeling-Charleston, W. Va., Msgr. Francis B. Schulte, to succeed Hannan.
