Koster Leads UC San Diego Women Past Christ College

Jill Koster scored 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and had 12 rebounds to help the UC San Diego women’s basketball team defeat visiting Christ College, 89-77, in a nonleague game.

Tracy Raghuz hit three 3-point shots in the first half and finished with 19 points for the Tritons (5-2).

Christ College (2-8) was led by Leslie Reinicke, who had 21 points and 10 rebounds. UC San Diego shot 51%, Christ College 44%.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Gordon McNeill scored 23 points, and Rick Batt had 15, but host UC San Diego blew a 9-point halftime lead and lost to Occidental, 81-76, in a nonconference game.

UCSD (3-4) led by as many as 13 points in the first half, but John Keister scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half to lead the Occidental comeback.

Mark Kraatz, guard for Christian Heritage College, was named NAIA District 3 player of the week. Kraatz, a 6-2 junior, scored 43 points and had 19 assists in victories over Redlands and Christ College-Irvine. An honorable mention NCCAAA All-American last year, Kraatz leads District 3 with a 9.4 assist per game average.
