The stars will continue to stay at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel--the five stars of the Mobil Travel Guide, that is. Executives at the lavish, 393-room hotel on the ocean bluffs expect to receive official notification today that the hotel has again won one of the travel industry’s highest honors--the Mobil Travel Guide Five-Star Award. Hotel officials were informally told of the honor Wednesday. The Ritz-Carlton has won the five-star award for the past 3 years. Last year, the hotel was one of three in Southern California--and the only one in Orange County--to win the coveted honor, which can translate into scores of additional guests at the check-in desk. “We’d be extremely disappointed if we hadn’t won,” said Henry Schielein, vice president and general manager. “It means an awful lot to the hotel to win that award.” The sponsors of the Mobil award send undercover “guests” each year to rate hotels for service, facilities, cleanliness and quality of food.
