Local News in Brief : La Canada Council Limits House Sizes

Share

The La Canada City Council voted unanimously Monday to restrict the size of new houses to 35% of their lots’ area.

Each house must be set back from the street as far as the average of the two on either side, although the minimum setback is 20 feet and the maximum is 50, the new law says.

The Council asked the city Planning Commission to draft a new ordinance because of concern that developers were overbuilding, Councilman Ed Phelps said.

The Council exempted small lots--those of 5,000 to 7,500 square feet--from the setback provision, except for the 20-foot minimum.
