Switzerland’s Maria Walliser, a disappointing 11th in the season’s opening World Cup ski race, showed world-class form in winning a downhill event at Altenmarkt, Austria, that counted toward the season’s first combined for women.
She had a winning time of 1 minute 35.23 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than runner-up Veronika Wallinger of Austria. Third was Swiss veteran Michela Figini in 1:35.55.
