Giovanni Ferzini, 109; Oldest Man in Italy

Giovanni Ferzini, 109, reported after a recent survey of Italian cities and towns to be the oldest man in Italy. Ferzini, who was born July 23, 1879, left his home in Lupazzano only once, and that was when he was an infantryman in World War I. After the war he returned to Lupazzano, married and fathered 13 sons. Seven of them survive him. Ferzini was a farmer and an avid hunter who continued to walk the fields and hunt until age 93. He told friends that he missed the old times, when the air was clean and there was plenty of game. In Lupazzano, a village of 200 renowned for its processing of hams, on Wednesday.
