Maine Beats USIU at Tournament

Staff and Wire Reports

The outside temperature resembled the shooting percentages for the U.S. International University men’s basketball team Friday night.

Unfortunately for the Gulls, the game wasn’t played in normally balmy Southern California. The weather at Dartmouth was cold--in the 30s--and so was USIU in the first round of a 4-team tournament.

The Gulls shot just 32% from the floor and 52% from the free-throw line in an 82-67 loss to Maine.

USIU will play St. Francis (N.Y.) tonight in a consolation game. St. Francis lost to Dartmouth, 103-92, Friday.

USIU had three players in double figures, but they were Paul Wilson with 11 points and Gary Williams and Demetrius Laffitte with 10 each. Wilson’s 11 points were the lowest for a USIU game scoring leader this season.
