Baseball bats for Ryan, a wristwatch for Brenda, two trucks for Jesse, a diamond ring for mommy and a shovel for dad top this year’s list of Christmas goodies children hope Santa will bring on his annual visit.

In exchange, Santa will have treats like a ham and cheese sandwich waiting for him and doughnuts ready for his flying reindeer when they pull up in their sleigh on Christmas Eve.

The children divulged their carefully planned Christmas lists during a visit to Robin Gurdak’s preschool class at the Helen James Elementary School in tiny Williamsburg, Mass.

“I would like a watch, a pink one,” Brenda Lafogg said. “And I would like you to bring Mommy a new baby--a girl baby. I don’t like boys.”

The 4-year-old admitted she had never seen St. Nick--”Only my mom did”--but heard that he was fat, so she decided to leave him a glass of apple juice to keep him from putting on any extra pounds.

Santa’s reindeer, apparently still in good shape from last year’s sleigh ride, “will get some doughnuts” when they arrive at Brenda’s house.

Ryan Scott, also 4, has a lengthy order this year. “I would like comic books and coloring books, a puzzle, toy boats and people that you could take into the bathtub and six baseball bats to play baseball with my friends,” he said.

For his pet dog, Ryan asks that Santa bring “a squeaky ball and mouse that walks and runs fast.” Ryan pointed out his dog “already gets a bone and some dog biscuits in his stocking, and he already has two mouses, but he would like another mouse. He would like three mouses.”

Maintaining the principle that it’s the thought that counts, Ryan added, “I would like you to bring a diamond ring for mom and soccer shoes for dad.”

Meanwhile, Santa’s going to have to be careful when he pulls up at 4-year-old Derek Bushey’s house. “We have two small chimneys, Santa, so go through the door,” Derek said, adding, “I would like a fuzzy alligator too big to put on my bureau.”

Jesse White, at 5 the elder statesman of the group, was torn between a red truck and a green truck, but then decided “I want both.”

“For Dad, I want a red and a black shovel to dig a hole with and put flowers for grandma,” Jesse said.

Jesse also will more than make up for Brenda’s low-cal snack for Santa, because the treats that will be waiting include “a ham sandwich with pickles and cheese and hot things on it.”

The reindeer only get “old bread and old milk,” Jesse said.

Zoey Gulmi-Landi, 4, wasn’t quite sure what she wanted, but promised there would be plenty of apples and carrots waiting for Santa and the reindeer. In addition, Zoey challenged the theory that Santa’s elves only make toys.

“Maybe they make shirts, ‘cause I got a shirt last Christmas,” Zoey said.
