No Pop Pulse

Share

Your annual pop music writers analysis of Top 40 albums was another exercise in self-justification masquerading as a buyers’ guide (“Do You Hear What They Hear?” (Dec. 11).

Def Leppard’s “Hysteria” was given just 2 1/2 stars, compared to the 4 stars allotted the critics’ darlings--U2 and Tracy Chapman.

Do you really expect us to believe that Def Leppard’s album has been purchased by 7 million morons, that rampant poor taste has caused “Hysteria” to stay at the top of the charts for nearly a year and a half, and that we should ignore those impressive sales statistics and instead buy your personal recommendations for Christmas presents?
