Chronicling the Big Chill in Los Angeles

Share

I loved your article, “Sense of Community.” How I could relate. We moved to Fullerton seven years ago and we had a coffee on a new block and everyone came and had a ball--and my cookies--and we never heard from them again. We are in Carlsbad now, and our neighbors will wave but that’s it.

I am a friendly artist who couldn’t even get one woman from an exercise class to take a walk or lunch. People are busy, have friends, family and no time for new folks in the area. Neighbors don’t want to be involved. All I want is a walk and lunch twice a month.

I’m in an art league and the members come to the meetings and sit with old friends--so I have found that most people stick to their own and have no interest in making new friends. Church/Temple is where one may make new friends after hours of volunteer work.
