S.V. White; Head of Bechtel Investments

Steven V. White, president of Bechtel Investments Inc. and a leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Bay Area, died Friday in Berkeley after a brief illness. He was 60.

Bechtel Investments is the principle investment company of the Bechtel family and a major affiliate of Bechtel Group Inc.

White joined Bechtel in 1961 as a contracts manager in its legal department, rising through Canadian branches of the company. In 1971, he was elected a vice president of the Bechtel Corp. and in 1980 became president.

He was president of the Oakland stake of the Mormon church.

White also was president and a director of Sequoia Ventures Inc., a company operating real estate, energy and natural resources.

He was a director of Merritt Peralta Medical Center, chairman of the advisory board of San Francisco radio station KOIT, past chairman of the UC Berkeley Business School Board and National Advisory Council of the School of Management of Brigham Young University.
