Microsemi Corp., a Santa Ana semiconductor company, has acquired a line of military transistors from Texas Instruments for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition should boost Microsemi’s annual sales by up to $20 million during the next several years, said David Sonksen, Microsemi’s vice president of finance. The company reported revenue of $57.5 million for the 9 months ended June 26.

Sonksen said most of the purchase price, which the company did not disclose, will be paid in royalties on future sales of the acquired products.

The transistors, which amplify electronic signals in computers and telecommunications products, will be manufactured at a Microsemi plant in Torrance. The plant has been operating at about 25% of capacity, so adding new products should improve efficiencies there, Sonksen said.

Just a handful of new jobs will be added at the Torrance facility, Sonksen said.

As part of the agreement, Microsemi will also acquire the rights to certain Texas Instruments technology used in manufacturing the transistor products.
