Judy’s Earnings Rise for Quarter Despite Sales Dip

Judy’s, a Van Nuys operator of a chain of apparel stores, reported higher earnings for its fiscal third quarter despite a 7% drop in sales.
In the quarter that ended Oct. 31, Judy’s net income jumped to $74,000, or 2 cents a share, up from $12,000 a year earlier. Sales slipped to $13.8 million from $14.8 million.
However, for the first 9 months of its fiscal year, Judy’s lost $577,000 on sales of $38.4 million. A year earlier, Judy’s earned $498,000, or 11 cents a share, on sales of $40.2 million.
