U.S. District Court jurors in New York deliberated for a second day without reaching a verdict in the Bess Myerson alimony-fixing trial. The jurors asked for a re-reading of some testimony by the government’s star witness, Sukhreet Gabel, the daughter of former state Supreme Court Justice Hortense W. Gabel, who is on trial with Myerson. Also charged is Myerson’s boyfriend, Carl (Andy) Capasso. Prosecutors charge that Myerson, former New York City cultural affairs commissioner, hired Sukhreet Gabel for a job to influence Justice Gabel’s rulings in Capasso’s divorce case. Gabel lowered Capasso’s alimony payments.
