World : IRA Bomb Factory Found in London
British police found a major IRA bomb factory and arms cache in a south London house today and launched a search for two suspected Irish nationalist guerrillas, Scotland Yard said.
The find highlighted fears that the Irish Republican Army might be preparing to launch a bombing campaign in England. Police said the haul included bomb-making equipment, machine guns and a “substantial amount” of Semtex explosives of the sort used by the IRA in attacks in Northern Ireland. They said the bomb factory had been found partly by chance following a shooting incident outside the house.
