Du Pont to Buy Hercules’ Carpet Fiber Operations

WILMINGTON, Del. — Du Pont Co. signed a letter of intent to purchase Hercules Inc.’s olefin carpet fiber business, doubling its share of the international market for the cheap commercial carpet fibers, a Du Pont spokesman announced.
The purchase price was not disclosed, said Tom McAndrews, director of the flooring systems division.
