More than 5,000 Polaroid Corp. employees have signed a petition that sends a clear message to hostile suitor Shamrock Holdings Inc. and its president, Stanley P. Gold: Thanks, but no thanks. The petition, which includes signatures from about 60% of Polaroid’s work force, also was designed as a protest message that corporate takeovers are potentially damaging to employees. The petition, circulated at Polaroid headquarters in Cambridge, Mass., and in plants worldwide, says Shamrock “has no experience in managing a high-tech company and has not yet explained to Polaroid employees the method of paying the astronomical debt needed to acquire” the company. Burbank-based Shamrock has offered $42 a share in a bid valued at $2.6 billion.
