Seven County Schools Make U.S. Honor Roll, Honig Says
Seven county schools are among 47 in California nominated by state Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig to compete in the 1988-89 National Secondary School Recognition Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
The county nominees are Fullerton High School, Irvine High, Los Alamitos High, Mission Viejo High, Ocean View High, Troy High and McFadden Intermediate.
Honig said the nominated schools show outstanding “school leadership, teaching environment, learning environment, institutional vitality, and parent and community support.”
Department of Education officials review the state nominations, then several schools are picked for on-site visits by national education leaders.
The winning schools will be named in May and will receive plaques, special flags and recognition at ceremonies usually held in the White House.
