Illinois detectives arrived in Santa Clarita on Thursday to begin extradition proceedings against a teen-ager wanted in the shotgun slaying of his wealthy father in suburban Chicago.

Roger Tracy Braun, 15, was arrested Wednesday near the Valencia home of a girl he knew from Arizona, Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Springs said.

Detectives from Lake County, Ill., arrived at the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station Thursday morning and planned to interview the youth at the juvenile facility where he was held, sheriff’s officials said.

Braun’s father, attorney Frederick Braun, was found dead by a maid Monday morning at the family’s posh home in the Chicago suburb of Barrington Harbor Estates.

Springs said deputies arrested the youth and a teen-age companion as they headed toward the home of a girl they had met in Arizona, where she was Braun’s “peer counselor” in a youth program in which he was enrolled because of behavioral problems.

The father of the girl said Braun first contacted the girl Tuesday and announced he was visiting her area. The father contacted authorities after he heard a police report and recognized the youth being described was Braun.
