Indiana University has asked the director of the Kinsey Institute, an internationally known sex research center, to resign, the institute confirmed. The university requested June Reinisch’s resignation in a letter written by Morton Lowengrub, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Lowengrub cited concerns about the quality of research during Reinisch’s six years as director and about her management ability. Reinisch said that opponents “have yet to come up with one stitch of evidence to support any of their claims.” The institute, which was founded in 1947 by Alfred C. Kinsey, is affiliated with and financed largely by Indiana University but is a separately incorporated entity. University officials do not have the authority to fire Reinisch, who reports to a 10-member institute board.
