NATION : Walsh to Get Look at North Defense

WASHINGTON — Rejecting strenuous arguments from Oliver L. North, a federal judge said today he will make available to independent prosecutor Lawrence Walsh a 162-page outline of possible defense testimony at the ex-White House aide’s upcoming Iran-Contra trial.
U.S. District Judge Gerhard Gesell acknowledged that defense lawyers have indicated they would appeal such a ruling on the ground that it reveals their trial strategy and violates North’s constitutional rights. To allow them time, he said he will not implement the order until Jan. 3.
