Sean Higgins Suspended 3 Games for Breaking Team Rules

Sean Higgins, averaging 13.8 points a game for the University of Michigan, was suspended for 3 games because he broke training rules, Wolverine Coach Bill Frieder said Thursday.

A university spokesman said he did not know the nature of Higgins’ violation.

The suspension will keep Higgins, a former standout at Los Angeles Fairfax High School, out of action for Michigan’s appearance in the Utah tournament Dec. 28-29 at Salt Lake City and the Wolverines’ Big Ten opener against Northwestern Jan. 7. The sophomore forward is expected to rejoin the team for a game against Minnesota Jan. 12.

Higgins has started all 11 games for second-ranked, undefeated Michigan. He is the Wolverines’ fourth-leading scorer and top 3-point shooter.

He is also the third Michigan player to have been disciplined this season. Sophomore guards Kirk Taylor and Demetrius Calip were suspended for the last 2 games for what the players said was their failure to complete class assignments.
