Trading Honorariums for a Pay Raise

I think this is a fascinating idea. Give government officials massive pay increases so that they will stop accepting bribes from special-interest groups. I think we’re really on to something here that could eliminate crime and corruption from the entire country. Simply find out how much money each criminal wants in order to stop being criminals, and pay them that amount. That should do the trick, don’t you think? It’s only fair, after all, since we would be asking them to be giving up a major portion of their livelihood.
