A&M;: It was a quiet year for the respected label, especially since most of its key acts (Sting, Janet Jackson and Bryan Adams) were off-duty. The platinum hits A&M; did have were a pair of oddities--a five-year old UB40 reggae album (which sprang back to life thanks to a No. 1 single) and a sound-track album which gave Louis Armstrong (!) his first Top 40 hit since “Hello, Dolly!” The label had promising first-time results from Toni Childs, the Soul Asylum and Brit mellow-popsters Breathe.
